Outdoor tours

Be guided by Madrid Original ® across the capital. Our walked tours will make you discover works of art outside museums: works of art still kept at the places for which they were created. We will admire Spanish Architecture's most remarkable landmarks. And we will walk along Spanish history exactly where it happened.

Madrid Original ® proposal for a guided tour through Medieval Madrid consists in a 2-hours walked tour from the old walls of the 9th century Islamic fortress to the 15th century palaces facing Alvaro de Bazán's statue.

Madrid Original ® proposes a walked guided tour through Habsburgs' Madrid consisting of Austrian rulers period (1515-1700) monuments (palaces, churches and convents) around the most representative of them all: the Plaza Mayor ("the Great Square") with its impressive bronze statue of king Philip III. The Palace of Uceda, the Chapel Saint Isidro and Carboneras Convent would be other major points of interest on our itinerary. Booking in advance would allow entry to interesting spaces usually closed to the public.

Madrid Original ® suggests a 2 hours walked guided tour through Bourbons Madrid (1700-1833) around the Royal Palace. From the Count-Duke's Barracks to Saint Francis the Great, most Bourbons monuments in the area will be examined, including the Cathedral of La Almudena. We will see how the different ideologies of the 18th and 19th centuries have inspired the creation or modification of the buildings.

Madrid Original ® suggests a 1,5 hours walked guided tour through Bourbons Madrid (1700-1833) across the Paseo del Prado. From the Puerta de Alcalá to the Saint Charles Hospital, most Bourbons monuments in the area will be examined, including the architecture of the Prado Museum. We will understand how the entire promenade was a consistent project, typical of the Age of Enlightenment, combining leisure and science.

Madrid Original ® proposes a 2-hours walked guided tour across Retiro Park. We will discover the remains of the Royal Domain of Buen Retiro, and we will learn how the Gardens of a Royal Palace were transformed into a public park through the 19th century, as a symbol of the passage from an absolutist regime to a liberal monarchy in which bourgeoisie and popular classes adopt aristocratic hobbies adapted to their economic capacity.

Madrid Original ® proposes a 2 hours walked guided tour along the Gran Vía. The Gran Vía is like a small museum of Spanish architecture from 1912 to 1959, when the city tried to look modern and started to look for inspiration in such different place as Paris, London or Chicago. The evolution of architecture as the Gran Vía was being erected and advanced from west to east, ran parallel to the evolution of Spanish history.

Madrid Original® proposes a guided tour along any of Madrid's historical streets. "Walk a street, walk our history" will show you how a historical street is very much like a museum: the buildings "hung" on both sides of the street have been witness of history and adopt styles and functions full of ideological intention or esthetical messages.
