Las Meninas

Velasquez' "Las Meninas" holds the place of honour in the Prado Museum. That certainly means something! Indeed, it is considered the absolute masterpiece of the Prado Museum, but at the same time the most extraordinary artistic achievement of Velasquez, one of our most universal painters. Las Meninas The painting was finished around 1656, four years before the artist's death. His Art was at his summit, and this painting, with its complexity of meaning and the technical resources used in it, brought to perfection the intellectual and manual skills Velasquez had proved so far.
